Primarium White Paper on The Fundamentals of Business Sustainability
Primarium has published a new white paper on The Fundamentals of Business Sustainability. A link to download the paper is provided below.
Business sustainability performance has become an important factor to investors, customers, and public stakeholders. In today’s world, there are stock market sustainability indexes and sustainable investment options for the growing socially responsible investor market. In addition, consumers now prefer products and services they deem to be more sustainable than others and shareholders demand sustainability performance reporting in addition to financial reporting. These factors indicate that companies able to distinguish themselves from their competitors by their sustainability performance will have an advantage. The sustainability or “green” image of a company is certainly important; however, should that be the end-goal or primary driver for business sustainability initiatives? The aim of this white paper is to demonstrate that sustainability performance can provide a company with far more strategic business value than simply an improved image.
Papers on sustainability often focus on practical ways that an organization can become more sustainable by implementing certain practices like turning off lights, using less water, replacing old lightbulbs with LEDs, and recycling. While these are all good practices, effective sustainability performance depends upon an organization’s mission, core values, strategic planning, and management systems. Sustainability performance can provide win-win opportunities for companies to reduce operating expenses, minimize compliance risks, improve their green image, and increase earnings. Sustainability performance is also rewarding in that it can result in societal good. Finally, sustainability performance allows us to be good stewards of Creation.
